Pompeii and Herculaneum by High-Speed Train from Rome, Pizza Lunch Included
Two ruined Roman towns in one day, reached by train from Rome instead of a long coach ride. A representative meets the group at Termini, the high-speed train covers the run to Naples in about an hour and ten minutes, and a minicoach takes over from there.
Pompeii comes first, with a walking tour of around two hours through a city that held rich families, merchants, craftsmen and slaves side by side. Lunch is at a historic pizzeria in town, with pizza, antipasti, dessert and a drink. The afternoon goes to Herculaneum, less than half the size of Pompeii, a small seaside town whose wooden structures and frescoes survived unusually well. Another two-hour guided walk covers it.
A transfer returns the group to Naples station for the fast train back to Rome. The day suits visitors who want both sites without arranging transport themselves, in a group of up to 18.
