Pompeii and Herculaneum Day Trip by High-Speed Train from Rome, Archaeologist Guide, Up to 8
The train part is self-guided: the high-speed tickets arrive the day before, and each traveler rides from Rome Termini to Naples alone. The group forms in Naples, in front of the Starhotels Terminus across from the station, where the local guide and an Askos Tours driver take over for the rest of the day in a minibus.
A licensed archaeologist leads both sites. Pompeii is covered in about two hours, entering by the Porta Marina and following Via dell'Abbondanza to the House of Menander, the Stabian Baths, the Lupanar, the House of the Faun and the theatres. Herculaneum is smaller and gets its own guided visit, with the Samnite House, the House of the Wooden Partition, the House of the Skeleton and the Central Baths on the list.
Between the two sites there is a short break at Maximall Pompeii, a shopping center, where each guest receives a welcome kit and a discount card. A minibus returns the group to Naples near the station for the train back to Rome. Meals are not included, and passports or ID are needed.
