Rome to Pompeii by High-Speed Train: Guided Tour, Vineyard Wine Tasting and Lunch
Ratings collected by Viator and Tripadvisor
RomeDay trips to Pompeii by road can run past twelve hours, with six to eight of them spent on a coach. This one swaps the road for the high-speed train: Naples is an hour from Rome, and a private coach covers the last 35 minutes to the ruins.
A local guide leads the walk through the excavated city, destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. The streets are still cobbled, and bakeries, shops, stalls, houses, public baths and even brothels are standing. The plaster casts of the victims, formed from ash and pyroclastic flow, are part of the route.
The day ends at a winery near Pompeii with a tasting of four wines made from grapes grown in the volcanic soil of Vesuvius, followed by antipasti, a first course and dessert. A soft drink alternative is available, and children are welcome. The group is capped at 20 people.
