Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius Private Guided Day from Sorrento, 9 Hours
Three sites in one day, two of them with a private licensed guide. Pompeii gets a two-hour guided visit, Herculaneum roughly another two hours with a second guide arranged for the group, and the day ends with the hike to the crater of Mount Vesuvius.
Both towns have been preserved since the eruption of 79 AD, which is what makes pairing them worthwhile. Vesuvius is an active volcano, currently dormant, and the walk starts from a parking area at about 1,000 meters (3,000 feet).
A driver handles the transport and the guides cover Pompeii and Herculaneum in English. Entrance tickets and lunch are not included, and Vesuvius tickets are released online only one month ahead.
