Entry tickets to both Pompeii and Herculaneum come with this day trip from Naples, so the queue is skipped at each park. The pickup point in Naples is chosen at booking, and a light lunch at a local restaurant sits between the two sites.

The road to Pompeii runs beneath Vesuvius, the volcano that buried the cities in 79 AD. Inside, the walk follows the original streets past frescoes and mosaics, with the guide explaining how the houses, temples and public spaces were built. Pompeii takes about two hours.

Herculaneum comes after lunch and takes about an hour and a half. Volcanic mud covered the town, and many villas still have their original wooden doors and painted frescoes.

  1. Archaeological Park of Pompeii

Pickup at the hotel and drive to Pompeii. A guide meets the group at the entrance of the excavations for a walking visit of around 2 hours through streets, houses and temples of a city where wealthy Romans once took holidays.

  2. Archeological Park of Herculaneum

After lunch at a typical restaurant, the group continues to Herculaneum, which legend says Hercules founded. The guide leads a walk of 1h30min. Mostly covered by ash and mud rather than lava, it is better preserved than Pompeii, and its houses still have doors and frescoes. It was smaller and mainly residential.
