Pompeii and Herculaneum Coach Day Trip from Naples with Lunch, Entry Not Included
A coach collects passengers from hotels around Naples between 8:00 and 8:45 am, with a tour assistant on board for the ride to Pompeii. The price covers the transport, the lunch and a guide, but not the entry tickets, which are paid separately.
Pompeii gets about two hours: the large theatre, the necropolis, the baths and some of the houses that belonged to the richest residents. A light lunch at a local restaurant follows. In the afternoon the coach goes on to Herculaneum, where the ruins are explored independently, with audio guides. The mud that covered the town preserved its structures and objects, so daily life is easier to read there than at Pompeii.
With fewer than six people the tour runs with an audio guide in place of a live guide.

After the last pickup, the coach drives from central Naples to the Pompeii archaeological park.

Archaeological Park of Pompeii
Pompeii had about 11,000 inhabitants and Herculaneum some 5,000 when several metres of ash buried the area in a few hours in 79 AD. Emperors and aristocrats kept holiday villas in both. Excavations began in 1748 under the Bourbons. The visit takes about 2 hours and, if time allows, includes a coral and cameo factory where artisans show how the pieces are made.
