Pompeii and Herculaneum Archaeologist-Led Tour from Naples, Sorrento or Rome (8/8)

This tour pairs the two towns buried by Vesuvius in AD 79 and lets the booking option decide where the day begins: Naples, Sorrento, Rome (train to Naples included) or straight at the gates of Pompeii. Every participant gets a headset, so the archaeologist's commentary carries across the ruins.

Pompeii comes first. The guide meets the group at the Porta Marina Inferiore entrance and walks them through the Forum, the main houses and public buildings, and the plaster casts of the victims. After a short break the group moves to Herculaneum, by minibus on the Naples, Sorrento and Rome options and by the Circumvesuviana train on the walking option.

Herculaneum is the smaller of the two and the better preserved, and the visit includes the beach where more than 300 skeletons were found. The walking option ends inside the ruins, while the options with transport return to the starting point.
