Private 8-Hour Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius and Winery Tour from Sorrento by Mercedes Van
A private driver collects the party at its accommodation on the Sorrento coast at a pre-arranged time, early enough to make the most of the day. The vehicle is a Mercedes people carrier, and the route takes eight hours.
Three things fill the day: Pompeii, the largest Roman ruins and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that stands over Naples; and a wine tasting with a light lunch. At the tasting, the Lacryma Christi, the "tears of Christ" wine, comes with local cheeses, tomato bruschetta, hams and salamis, and a spaghetti made with tomatoes grown on the same slopes. The driver also stops on the coastal road for photos of Naples and Vesuvius.
Tickets are the main thing to plan around. Entrance to Pompeii and to Vesuvius, and the archaeological guide at Pompeii, are not included, although a guide can be arranged. The winery lunch is charged separately, and a pizza stop is possible for anyone who does not drink wine.

Archaeological Park of Pompeii
On the coastal road the driver stops for photos of Naples and Vesuvius, then the party spends a couple of hours in Pompeii. The Roman town on the southern slopes of the volcano was buried by the eruption of AD 79, and excavation still goes on. Walking its streets, visitors can look into shops and private homes and read ancient advertisements and graffiti. An authorized archaeological guide can be arranged and is not included in the price.
