Two guides share this day. An official guide leads a 2.5-hour walk through Pompeii with skip-the-line entry, pointing out the preserved infrastructure and artifacts of the city destroyed by the eruption. After a lunch break, an official Alpine guide takes over on Vesuvius and answers questions along the way.
The volcano walk is about 40 minutes from the 1,000 m level, on a path that ends at the edge of the crater. At the top the view runs 360 degrees over the crater itself and the surroundings.
The tour starts in Naples and returns there as the sun sets.
