Pompeii and Vesuvius Day Trip from Rome by Coach, with Archaeologist and Pizza Lunch
Two guides split the day. A licensed archaeologist takes the group through Pompeii, and after lunch a volcanologist leads the walk on Mount Vesuvius, explaining the volcano's explosive history on the slopes where it happened. The trip starts and ends in Rome, with round-trip air-conditioned coach transport.
Pompeii comes first, entered with pre-reserved skip-the-line tickets. Lunch is a multi-course meal on the slopes of Vesuvius, with pizza, local appetizers and dessert, before the hike up to the volcano.
The day is long, about 12 hours with roughly two and a half hours of driving each way, and the Vesuvius walk calls for a high level of fitness. It suits travelers who want both sites in one day without arranging transport themselves.
