Private Herculaneum Tour with an Archaeologist, Guiding in Eight Languages
An archaeologist leads this private tour of Herculaneum, the Roman town destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, and shares anecdotes along with the archaeology. Guiding is available in German, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, English, Italian, French and Spanish.
Roman aristocrats treated Herculaneum as the best holiday destination, a small chest full of miracles in the Roman phrase. Its private residences and public buildings yielded marble decorations, wall paintings, mosaic floors and everyday objects. Known as the sister of Pompeii, it shows better-preserved finds such as wooden doors and fine paintings.
The route takes in the College of the Augustales, the House of the Skeleton, the House of the Wooden Partition and several other houses of the site.
