The guide here is a licensed archaeologist, and the tour is built for two kinds of traveler: cruise passengers landing at Salerno, who can have a bus pickup and drop-off at the port, and visitors who simply meet the group in Pompeii. Skip-the-line tickets for the site are included.

The walk starts at Porta Marina Inferiore and lasts about 2.5 hours. It takes in the Forum, the Basilica where justice was administered, the Temple of Apollo, the market area and a thermopolium, the Roman equivalent of a snack bar. Inside, there are the public baths, the mosaics of the House of the Faun and the Lupanar. The last stop is the plaster casts of victims, caught at the moment of the eruption.

The guides are local and speak several languages, and the tour is run in English or Spanish.
