Pompeii 3-Hour Private Walking Tour of the Western Ruins with an Archaeologist
This walk covers the western part of Pompeii, and it takes three hours to do it. A professional local guide leads the group, the admission ticket is covered, and the pace is that of a private visit rather than a rushed overview.
The city was buried under the ashes of Mount Vesuvius in the 79 AD eruption. Walking its streets with a guide, the visitor gets the sense of a town that is still lived in. Stops run from the basilica and the Forum along the main street, past the forum granary, the House of Menander and the Stabian Baths, to the Lupanar, the House of the Faun and the two theatres.
The site is large and exposed, with little shade, so sunscreen and a hat are recommended. The tour runs rain or shine, and luggage can be left free of charge at a safe store at the meeting place.
