Herculaneum Skip-the-Line Entry Ticket with Guided Tour by an Archaeologist
Ratings collected by Tiqets
The guide on this visit is a trained archaeologist, and the subject is how a Roman town was kept almost whole. Herculaneum was buried in 79 AD, and the carbonisation caused by the volcanic material preserved things that rarely survive: roofs, beds, wood and even sewage.
The houses here show how wealthy Romans lived. Their marble and mosaics are richer than those at Pompeii, and the buildings were not wiped out by the eruption but buried up to their top floors in ash. Entry is skip-the-line, so the guided part starts without a wait at the gate.
