A local archaeologist leads this private walk through Paestum, first across the archaeological area and then inside the National Museum, following the city from its Greek beginnings to its Roman years.

Greek colonists founded Poseidonia at the end of the 7th century BC and named it after Poseidon, protector of the sea. The site is now one of the best preserved cities of the Greek colonial era and is protected by UNESCO. In the ruins the guide covers the temples, the Heroon, the Roman Forum and the Roman residential area. In the museum the focus falls on the painted Tomb of the Diver, a masterpiece about 2,500 years old.

The National Museum is closed on the first and third Monday of every month, so the date matters when booking.
