Napoli Sotterranea Spanish Quarters: 1-Hour Guided Visit, Skip-the-Line Entry

Under the Spanish Quarters runs a second Naples, carved out of the rock. The Greeks cut cisterns here around 470 BC to collect rainwater, and the Romans later extended the system with an aqueduct that kept supplying the city for centuries. This one-hour guided visit goes down into it with a skip-the-line ticket, so the wait above ground is short.

The air changes as the steps go down: humidity reaches 90%, and the tunnels feel close. In the 1940s hundreds of people sheltered in the same spaces while bombs fell on Naples, and the guide puts that period next to the Greek and Roman layers.

Groups are split in two, one led in English and the other in Italian.
