Baia Submerged Park Snorkeling Trip by Boat with Personal Guide and Safety Lesson
Bradyseism, the slow sinking of the ground in the volcanic Phlegraean Fields, has put the Roman villas that once faced the sea at Baia about four meters underwater. Nothing lies deeper than that, so the remains are fully visible from the surface and snorkeling is enough to see them.
The program begins at the diving center with a short lesson on safety procedures, equipment and behavior in the water. A boat then takes the group to the Archaeological Park of Baia for about 45 minutes along one of the park's routes, past mosaics, statues and marble floors and the marine life that lives among them today. A personal guide stays with each participant. Snorkeling equipment is provided; participants bring a swimsuit and a towel, and clean clothes if they want them. Showers and changing rooms are available afterward, and refreshments are usually served.
